When were you last promoted within your organization? What roles and responsibilities changed at your workplace? Were you ever trained for the new roles that you were handed over?
Was it just the technical competencies or human behavioural aspects as well for which you were ever trained? Just like any other role that you undertake in an organizationn for which you are formally trained and aprised with, it is equally important for you to be trained for a Leadership Role. Surprisingly, most of the organizations do not value the need to train and groom their leaders for a leadership role. Although induction training, technical training, product training, etc. are quite prevalent but the need to impart leadership training through a formal structured Leadership Training Program is yet considered as unnecessary and unappreciative.
It is important to understand that whenever an individual is either promoted in an organization, or given a new role wherein he has to lead members of the team, he becomes a leader and should be trained on how to work in his/her new role. The leader can have his/her own unique style and personality to work with, but training on different aspects are the essential ingredients to make the leader work with complete effectiveness and awareness.
Unfortunately, most of the organizations believe that product /service training is all that their employees need to be successful. But that’s not the case. Besides several hard skills there are several soft skills, behavioural skills that the leaders need to learn and imbibe. Infact, as we move higher the ladder, greater is the need for such psycho social skills compared to the technical skills, that in any case seniors have already mastered so far. Let’s explore few of such leadership skills that are generally considered as the most pertinent skills for helping the leaders to become wholesome leaders.
5 Qualities that Train You For A Leadership Role
Interpersonal Skills:
Have you ever thought of training your leaders on their interpersonal skills? The first thing that the leader is bound to do is to communicate and connect with people on board. How well he connects with his team members becomes the first yardstick to measure the leader’s success. The art of communicating with the colleagues is not just about passing instructions and getting the task done, rather it has to be a well designed and structured with complete clarity. There exists a whole lot of difference between doing a task by oneself and getting the task done through others.
This thin line of difference makes the entire team productivity shoot or drop. This is something that leaders need to be sensitized and trained on. Here, the Leadership Development Training Program makes a hell lot of difference. There are several Leadership Training Seminars, Leadership Training Workshops and such events that help to enhance leadership skills on effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Empathy:
It is well said that a leader is incomplete without their emotional intelligence. It is through EI that a leader learns the art and science of empathising. Without recognising the feelings, emotions and state of being of others, a leader cannot act and work in tandem. Imagine a team leader being insensitive or oblivion towards his/her team members state of mind. Empathy is ability to see things from others perspective. When a team member is not able to focus on his work and the leader reads his mind, calls him over a cup of coffee and helps him to speak his heart out and make his/her subordinate feel better and refreshed, that’s when the leader practices empathy.
The leader listens the unsaid and says what is in the best interest of all. These leadership skills are definitely learnt with experience, yet the best leadership training programs organized through various leadership training seminars helps to develop these leadership skills. A systematic approach towards leadership training & development helps the leader to craft his leadership skills.
Humility:
Humility is one of the leadership behaviour pattern that is least observed. The moment someone is promoted to a higher profile or has people reporting to him/her, there is a sudden change in attitude and people’s approach. There is a certain air around you that boosts your ego and the focus remains on I than we. This approach not only keeps the team members at a distance but also stops an individuals learning & growth. This is not the hallmark of an effective leader. Professionally designed leadership training workshops, helps the leaders to identify such behaviour patterns and make the necessary corrections.
Humility is one of the rarest but most essential quality that distinguished an ordinary leader from a level-5 leader. Here, Leadership Training Classes may not help to create humility in leaders but definitely helps them to identify the value of being a humble leader. Those who gain the trainings in true sense and spirit, can make remarkable change sin their personality.
Adaptability:
Technological advancements are happening at a rapid pace. Inflexible leaders who do not pace up with the changes become stagnant and redundant over a period of time. This also tends the companies to lose market share and lag behind from the competitors. Current timings are the most fragile times and need constant sense of adaptability. Staying on the cutting edge and ahead requires flexibility and adaptability on the part of the leaders to adapt quickly to the changes in the market place.
This fact needs to be apprised, sensitized and reinforced with the leaders. There are several leadership training courses that can help the leaders to understand more about flexibility and adaptability. There are corporate leadership training programs that help the leaders to evaluate the essence of developing adaptability skills to become an effective leader.
Decisiveness:
This is one skills that I personally feel that most of the leaders lag behind. We are conditioned to follow the decisions and find it really hard to take decisions on our own. It has been observed that even the smartest of leaders find it really hard to take decisions. However a leader becomes ineffective if he/she is incapable of taking a decision. It is first the decision making skills that are most important and then the ability to take right decisions at the right time that are important. Many a times the leaders are found to be dependent upon other’s decision. That’s not the hallmark of an effective leader. A leader must take decisions and then stand by those decisions.
Leadership Training Programs on Problem Solving and decision making skills help the leaders to become more effective in their work environment. Such kind of leadership training courses helps the leader to understand how to take decisions in different situations, how to find creative ways to solve problems and how to go about them.
The above discussed aspects are few of the many important aspects of a leadership role. Unfortunately, corporates focus on creating achievers than creating leaders by helpug them to undergo Leadership Development Training Programs that promotes their thinking, visualizing, experiencing and implementing abilities in their new learnings to their workplace.
